Chapel's Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer shawls are made by ladies in the congregation and then brought to the service to be blessed. Shawls are presented to members or friends of the congregation in times of sickness and need. This lets them know they are in the hearts and prayers of their church family.
Victory Junction Camp-Teddy Bear Project
Article below from WELCA State Newsletter.
LOCAL CONGREGATIONAL UNIT NEWS: The coronavirus pandemic (COVID) has not stopped the ongoing projects for the Ladies at Lutheran Chapel Church, China Grove. The Teddy Bear Project is the one we want to highlight. It all began about 10 years ago when we had a program at our monthly Circle meeting. Thrivent Financial introduced Victory Junction Camp to us and its need for bears for their campers. The camp for children who have serious medical conditions or chronic illnesses is located neat Randleman, NC. The Petty Family, who enjoys racing with NASCAR, have created a wonderful camp for these children. Each child is honored to take home a teddy bear and a blanket at the end of their week of summer camp. Our ladies each made bears from the black and white checked fabric to go with the Racing Theme of the camp. After the first year, we had one lady who continued to make them all year long and has continued to the present day. I was happy to travel to the camp and receive a tour in April this year when Myrtle Lentz delivered the nearly 100 bears that were completed to donate to the camp. Over the years, we have made and given approximately 1,000 bears. Each one is different with a complimentary color added to give it personality. The other ladies in our group help stuff the bears and tie a ribbon bow to complete the cute and cuddly bears. In addition to
the bears, we have also made and contributed blankets. Not only do we donate bears each
year, two of our circle ladies volunteers at the camp to help the camp staff. Our volunteers
have enjoyed learning more about the camp and giving of their time for the last five to ten
years. This project has become an ongoing ministry for our Women of the ELCA Group which has been a blessing for not only the children, but the camp and for our Women’s Group. The love we share is God’s Work using our hands. This is a project everyone seems to really enjoy.
